Blogging is something you can do. Go for it!

Blogging is nothing convoluted as it might seem, in reality, it can be a straightforward process if you choose to get help.

Blogging is not just creating your brand, designing or customising your site, writing posts, getting traffic and making money via blogging. Some checks and balances are important before diving into blogging. Below are the 5 things you don’t what to miss out on while on your quest of starting a blog.

RESEARCH

Skipping this process is like you intentionally digging a ditch where you will fall into. Research in any project is super important, in other words, it can help you reduce the number of risk and burnout involved in the process of making it work for you.

IDENTIFY YOUR WHY

This might seem irrelevant because it’s just blogging; it is nothing serious, it is important to realise that; identifying your “WHY” is a fantastic way to start any Project.

There is always a reason why people do what they do or why people have chosen to venture into a particular situation. It might be for financial independence, perhaps, it is to get exposure. Maybe, you would like to showcase your writing skills or probably, you just want to help people.

Identifying why is not just the reason why you do what you do. It is a realisation that keeps you going when every other thing is trying to stop you. It keeps you grounded through the process of you owning and managing your blog.

IDENTIFYING THE SOLUTION YOU INTEND TO PROVIDE THROUGH YOUR BLOG.

First, it is important to see blogging as a trade! You are giving out something to get something back in return, in other words, you can get paid with some cool cash, applause or recognition by running a blog. The only reason you are being paid is that people are buying into your ideas, teaching, training and experiences.

Why do you think, musicians, comedians, doctors, mechanics and house helps get paid? Don’t be mistaken, it’s not because they have good looking faces, it is more of the fact that their trade has provided a solution to a problem. This is why those hiring them don’t have a problem with paying them.

SET STANDARDS FOR YOURSELF.

The booming blogosphere has given a reason for more people to join the industry, this is to say it is becoming crowded out here. My aim is not to discourage you, this is to bring to your notice the importance of attempting to be different from others. The first step of being different is by setting standards for yourself and brand.

You have to map out what you want your brand to be, and how you want to be perceived. Setting standards for yourself in blogging includes deciding on;

  • How many times you want to post weekly.
  • Do you want to keep it PG or not.
  • What writing style would you prefer to adopt.
  • The minimum and maximum words per post.
  • Who do you want to have access to your blog?

START

In most cases, the advice to aspiring bloggers from bloggers goes towards the line of start already. I will say this will work fine for one who is sure blogging is something they want to do.  In as much as this recommendation seems like encouraging you to go against all odds and starting anyway, it ain’t easy. It is important not to ignore the fact that starting any project can be really demanding.

Having doubts and uncertainty is normal. You can absolutely make it work for you, giving it a try is not a bad idea. Being that blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. I will say you don’t have to quit your day job to blog until your blog proves to sustain you.

Finally, you have to be scared of nothing. Go for it. With all of these checks and balances in place, I will say you start with the process of launching your blog.
